Here's my first official post. It is a piece I wrote about my dog, I don't know whether to send it off to a newspaper or not. Comments and views welcome!
Spoilt?
You may have heard of John Grogan. He wrote the bestselling book, Marley and Me. His book and his columns in the New York Times were about his dog, the worst behaved dog in the world. Fortunately I do not have the worst behaved dog in the world but, one that gets away with almost anything.
When puppies come into your life, they have the ability to get away with anything because of their eyes and cute faces. Normally as dogs grow up they lose this ability, as they tend to lose the puppy cuteness (but not in the owner’s eyes).
Unfortunately my dog has managed not to lose the puppy cuteness and the big eyes. The size of him doesn’t help either. He jumps on the sofa and gets away with it. He begs at the table and gets away with it. He is probably spoilt, but if you are thinking, “No. Spoilt is dressing dogs up in jumpers and bandanas”. You are wrong it is a common mistake; see, you are mixing up spoiling a dog, with animal cruelty.
My family and I know we should stop but you don’t know what those eyes do to you! We keep making excuses saying, “He’s still a puppy in our eyes” or “He’s only three!”, even we know he is actually twenty-one in dog years. So, if you see a cute, three year old, big eyed border terrier in your area. Don’t be fooled. He’s a menace in disguise.
Hi Maia, this post is very well written.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if you want to try and send this to a newspaper, I think (personally)that you should try and balance out your point of view, with a different view.
